Ever asked ChatGPT to write an article, read it back and thought, “That sounds very AI”?
Perhaps it’s full of sentences that start with “In today’s fast-paced world”, or it keeps telling you the same thing in slightly different ways. Then there are the endless one-line paragraphs, dramatic statements and words like “revolutionary” and “game-changing” that seem to appear in everything.
Welcome to the world of AI slop.
It’s the term being used to describe low-quality, mass-produced AI content that offers little originality or genuine value. And once you start recognising it, you’ll spot it everywhere.
The good news is that you can do something about it.
Tools such as ChatGPT and Claude are very good at producing convincing, well-structured text. Unfortunately, they can also fall into predictable writing habits.
One of my biggest frustrations is when AI writes three paragraphs that all say exactly the same thing, just with different words. You end up with an 800-word article that could have delivered the same information in 400.
Another giveaway is the constant use of one-line paragraphs. Like this. And this. Because apparently every sentence needs its own moment!
Then there are the unnecessary headings, repetitive conclusions and generic advice that sounds impressive but doesn’t actually tell the reader anything useful.
The trick is to give your AI writer clear instructions about how you want it to write, not simply what subject to cover.
Whether you’re using ChatGPT, Claude or another AI tool, try adding the following prompt when asking it to write an article.

You don’t necessarily need to start again. Paste your article into your AI tool and give it this instruction:

Next time you ask ChatGPT, Claude or another AI tool to write an article, try using the prompts above. You might be surprised at the difference a few clear instructions can make.
And if you’ve already got AI-written content on your website, why not put it through the clean-up prompt and see what changes?
At Digital House, we’re big supporters of AI and use it regularly ourselves. But we also know that AI doesn’t always get things right first time. Getting good results means knowing what to ask for, recognising when something isn’t quite right and being prepared to edit the results.
What is AI slop?
AI slop is low-quality, mass-produced content written by AI tools that offers little originality or genuine value. Typical signs are paragraphs that repeat each other, lots of one-line sentences, clichés and generic advice that does not tell the reader anything new.
Do these prompts work in ChatGPT and Claude?
Yes. They are plain instructions about how to write, so you can paste them into ChatGPT, Claude or any other AI writing tool along with your request.
Should I stop using AI to write my content?
No. We use AI regularly ourselves. The difference comes from giving it clear instructions and having a person read and edit the result before it goes on your website.
Would you like someone to help you with your website content?
We can. At Digital House we write and edit website pages and blog articles, using AI where it genuinely helps and a human eye on everything that gets published. A good place to start is our free website audit, where we look at your current content and tell you what could be clearer. Or email
Our free digital marketing audit reviews how your website, email campaigns, and online visibility work together, and identifies practical steps to improve performance.
