CASE STUDY

From Mapping Old Buildings to Making New Light

BACKGROUND

AS Stained Glass is the studio of glass artist Amanda Siegert at Amerton Farm, between Stafford and Uttoxeter. With more than thirty years of experience, and a background surveying historic buildings for English Heritage and Cadw, Amanda runs small-group stained glass courses, restores and re-leads old panels and creates bespoke commissions from first idea to installation.

Her website was on an old, unsupported version of Joomla and needed rebuilding to stay secure and to present the studio properly.

CHALLENGE

The site had to carry three different things, courses, restoration and commissions, and show the work beautifully, because stained glass is all about light and colour. It also had to make booking a course or asking about a window as simple as possible.

The rebuild needed to preserve Amanda's warm, personal voice rather than replacing it with agency copy.

SOLUTION

Digital House rebuilt the site on a supported Joomla platform with pages for courses, restoration and commissions, a gallery of studio work, student pieces and finished windows, a course dates and prices page and a simple contact page. Amanda's Guild of Master Craftsmen membership is included.

The copy is written in the first person and keeps her own lines, such as A window in mind, or a class to book?

RESULTS

AS Stained Glass now has a secure, modern website that shows the work in its best light and gives visitors a clear way to book a course or commission a piece.

The small-group courses, gift vouchers and group bookings are all easy to find.

CONCLUSION

A craft business needs a website that feels made by hand, and this one does.

It is a good example of a modest rebuild that transforms how a studio presents itself.
