AI App Builders Are Impressive… But Are They Right for Your Business Website?

Over the past few months I’ve been experimenting with some of the new AI app builders such as Loveable.dev. They are genuinely impressive tools and the speed at which you can create something functional is remarkable.

However, after testing them and thinking about how businesses use websites day-to-day, I think it’s important to understand where they fit — and where they might not yet be the right solution.

Why AI App Builders Are Appealing

AI app builders are brilliant for experimenting with ideas. You can generate layouts, pages and even working applications incredibly quickly. For startups or people testing concepts, this is a powerful way to prototype something without needing a developer.

But when businesses start using them as their main website platform, a few practical considerations appear.

Ownership

In many cases the website or app lives inside the platform. That means you don’t fully control where it’s hosted or how easily it can be moved later.

Credits and Usage Costs

Most AI builders work on a credit system. Each change, update or generation uses credits. Initially this can seem inexpensive, but costs can grow as the site evolves.

Even something simple can add up.

If you are a kitchen or bathroom fitter and want to regularly add photos of new projects, small changes to layouts or content may involve regenerating sections several times until they look right. Each attempt can use credits.

Hosting and Email

Another thing people often don’t realise is that hosting on these platforms can be more expensive than traditional website hosting.

Many also don’t provide email services, meaning you still need a separate provider for your business email.

Where AI App Builders Fit

Personally, I think AI builders are incredibly exciting. They are fantastic for learning, prototyping and testing ideas quickly.

But for many businesses that rely on their website as a long-term marketing tool, they still feel like they are in the early stages.

For smaller businesses that want to manage their own site, a small WordPress or Joomla CMS site can often be a more flexible starting point. Many now include easy drag-and-drop builders while still giving you full ownership.

For larger businesses, investing in a professionally built website is often the better long-term decision for credibility, flexibility and growth.

The Key Question

AI builders will no doubt evolve quickly. But the real question businesses should ask is simple:

Are you building a prototype… or a long-term asset for your business?
